As we look at this photo, we notice the sunbeam pouring in from the left. Sunbeams are often invisible, they are all around us even on cloudy days, but we take it for granted. We don’t focus on the sun, because it is just there, and we enjoy it. However, when the conditions are just right, sometimes we see more visibly what has been there all along, like this sunbeam.
So it is with God. We know that God is with us always, but sometimes we don’t exactly know how or what grace God is pouring into our lives on a daily basis. Spiritual Direction is a practice where through intentional prayer and contemplation, we seek to create sacred space, so that the unseen hand of God can become more visible in our lives, once we start to take notice. We trust God, and taking the time to prayerfully contemplate and adopt a listening stance, we desire to draw nearer to God in relationship. Just like the sunbeam becomes visible, the ways that God is guiding our lives becomes more visible to seekers.
